Question:
What is the recommended way to temporarily enter a participant who is having an issue providing documentation of their social security card?
Answer:
In past situations when an individual has been temporarily unable to provide documentation of their social security card, we have created pseudo SSNs by utilizing the seekers date of birth by using the following format: 9MM-DD-YYYY

"9" is used as a pseudo SSN. Social Security Administration does not begin SSN's with the number 9. Once the SSN is received, you can contact the OWCMS Help Desk with the correct ssn and the help desk can correct it.

This can be used to get the participant into OWCMS. However, it is the program office's decision if this is acceptable in regards to eligibility for the specific program.
