Unemployment Insurance is temporary income:
- For eligible workers
- Who lose their jobs
- Through no fault of their own.
To collect benefits, you must be ready, willing, and able to work, and actively looking for work during each week (including your waiting week) in which you are claiming benefits.
To qualify for benefits, you must have worked and earned enough wages in covered employment. In Ohio, employers pay contributions that fund Unemployment Insurance. It is not deducted from your pay check. The Office of Unemployment Insurance Operations decides if you quality for benefits.

| Active Search For Work | When they apply for unemployment benefits, eligible individuals who are required to search for work are registered in OhioMeansJobs.com and must create and maintain an active, searchable resume on that website. In addition, they must do both of the following for each week that they file a claim for benefits:
- Conduct two work search activities
- Provide documentation of their work search activity

| Mandated Reemployment Services (RESEA/UCRS) | To help recipients of unemployment benefits return to the workforce, the U.S. Department of Labor sanctions two reemployment programs: the Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program and the Unemployment Compensation Reemployment Services (UCRS) program. Both programs connect unemployed and under-employed claimants to reemployment and training services designed to help them quickly and effectively transition to their next jobs. These services are delivered through the OhioMeansJobs centers.
