Veterans with a service-connected injury will want to
file a disability claimWith a disability rating from the VA, veterans may not only be eligible for monthly compensation, they can also be covered for travel expenses for service-connected medical appointments, particularly if the rating is at least 30%. Even a "zero percent" rating helps prioritize veterans for VA programs and provides a baseline for the VA to use when considering a higher rating should the injury worsen. (A "zero percent" rating is an acknowledgement that an injury is service-connected, but doesn't impair the veteran in a way that requires compensation.)
