The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) will conduct a Public Hearing for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Plan for State of Ohio on Friday, June 22, 2001, at the Riffe Center, 19th floor, Room 1952, 77 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio. The hearing will be held to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the provision of child care services under the plan.
The CCDF Plan describes the CCDF program to be conducted by the state of Ohio for the period of 10/01/2001 - 09/30/2003. ODJFS estimates that $196,166,687.00 of CCDF funds will be available for child care services and related activities during the 1 year period of October 1, 2001 through September 30, 2002. With approximately $9,808,334.00, or five percent of the CCDF, used to administer the program.. The law also requires that not less than 4% of the CCDF be set-aside for quality activities (658E(c)(3)(B), 658G, ??98.13(a), 98.16(h), 98.51, 98.16(h)). ODJFS estimates that the following amount and percentage will be used for the quality activities (not including earmarked funds): $ 7,846,667 ( 4 %)
In addition, child care services administered through ODJFS are also coordinated with other interested state and local agencies. Examples include:
- An interagency agreement with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) to expand the availability of school age child care programs throughout the state;
- A service contract with the Ohio Educational Television Stations (OETS), which manages the Public Broadcasting Stations (PBS) located in 8 regions around the state, to conduct local area child care provider workshops, produce educational videos, broadcast daily educational video vignettes, research and develop workshop materials for the Ready To Learn curriculum, conduct Train-The-Trainer sessions at the local stations, and purchase and maintain a child care educational lending library with access open to parents and providers;
- The Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) services statewide system, which is comprised of grantees that serve all of Ohio's 88 counties, either directly or through the use of subcontractors. The CCR&R system, in addition to linking parents with child care options, serve as one vehicle for providing comprehensive consumer education to all families, regardless of income, in the State of Ohio.
