First Aid Training for child care providers working in licensed centers or Type A Homes is required by Rules 5101:2-12-27 and 5101:2-13-27. This training can be taught by a licensed physician or registered nurse, an emergency medical service instructor or an authorized trainer for a health organization approved by the department in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Health.

The first aid curriculum developed in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety is available on the EMS - Children website, First Aid for Child Care Center Personnel.

The following health organizations are approved at this time to provide First Aid training for child care center personnel:

• American Red Cross
• American Heart Association
• American Safety and Health Institute
• Emergency Care and Safety Institute
  (formerly National Safety Council safety training programs)
• Medic First Aid
• PedFACTS - Pediatric First Aid and CPR for Caregivers and Teachers

The following health organizations are approved at this time to provide only CPR training for child care center personnel:

• American Red Cross
• American Heart Association
• American Safety and Health Institute
• Emergency Care and Safety Institute
