Federal Requirement for Revalidation/Re-enrollment

Federal Requirement for Revalidation

The provider provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Includes a requirement to revalidate (renew) a provider agreement every 5 years and will include a fee for the revalidation. This will apply to both Medicare and Medicaid provider agreements.  As a result the Ohio Office of Medicaid Assistance (OMA) is required to revalidate all providers, applying ACA criteria, every five years.   Providers that fail to revalidate will be deactivated from participation in the Ohio Medicaid Program.  The OMA will begin revalidation in 2013.  The initial revalidation process will be rolled out in phases, until all providers are revalidated.   After the initial revalidation, all providers will be on a five-year revalidation cycle.  This initial revalidation will only apply to providers that have been enrolled for more than five years.

Prior to the passage of the ACA, laws were changed in Ohio to limits Medicaid provider agreements to five years. (See Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 5101:3-17.4)  The revalidation process will address the Ohio requirements of re-screening and re-enrolling providers for another five years.

Questions and Answers

newImportant notice to providers that have received revalidation letters:  The Office of Medicaid Assistance is aware of an issue regarding a provider's ability to sign-in to their Revalidation Application.  If you are an organization or group, you must sign using name as it appears on your Revalidation notification letter.

If you are an individual, you will most likely have to use your full name, not just your last name as prompted.   Your full name is on your letter.  For instance:  Silver Joseph J MD.  Be sure not to use your business address or you DBA name as your name.  If you should exit the program prior to completing your Revalidation application,  when you sign on the next time, your new log-in might be just your last name.

Once you have entered the business name or your individual name, you must select "search" before you select the "next" button.
