National Academy for State Health Policy
ABCD Screening Academy Grant Overview

The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (ODJFS), Ohio Medicaid program has received a technical assistance grant to improve developmental screening and follow up care for Medicaid children ages birth through six. This covers nearly 500,000 children or approximately 50 percent of all Ohio children these ages. The grant is being facilitated by the National Academy for State Health Policy and is supported by The Commonwealth Fund.

Ohio is one of 18 states along with Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia to be awarded a grant. ODJFS is partnering with the Ohio Departments of Health, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Mental Retardation and Disabilities, and Education to achieve grant goals.

A broad Stakeholder Advisory Group has been identified to guide and inform achievement of grant goals. Improvement methods in developmental care will be piloted in several Ohio pediatric pilot practices serving these Medicaid children in partnership with Medicaid managed care plans. The learning from these pilot sites will be spread statewide to all physicians providing care to young Medicaid children.

This grant is closely related to the Vermont Child Health Improvement Partnership grant received by the Ohio Department of Health. A core leadership team will coordinate implementation of both grants.
