Communicable Disease Training for Child Care Center
and Type A Home Personnel

Communicable Disease Training for child care providers working in licensed centers or Type A Homes is required by Rules 5101:2-12-27 and 5101:2-13-27.

  • Trainers who conduct communicable disease training for child care providers must meet the qualifications according to Rule 5101:2-12-27, OAC. Trainers must be a licensed physician, registered nurse, or an authorized communicable disease trainer from an approved health organization.
  • The only approved communicable disease curriculums are the Common Childhood Illnesses for Child Care Centers (Approved Training Curriculum developed by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Ohio Department of Health) and communicable disease training classes offered by an approved health organization.

Trainer Information - Training Curriculum

Common Childhood Illnesses for Child Care Centers Approved Training Curriculum  is available for trainers on a CD-Rom.  The CD-Rom includes the curriculum, PowerPoint presentation and additional materials for trainers. 

In addition, and in order to keep trainers up to date, ODJFS is compiling a voluntary registry of trainers and requesting trainers to complete a registry application, which includes contact information and return the form.   Upon submission of the voluntary registration form to ODJFS, the training curriculum will be sent out.
