Communicable Disease Training for child care providers working in licensed centers or Type A Homes is required by Rules 5101:2-12-27 and 5101:2-13-27.
- Trainers who conduct communicable disease training for child care providers must meet the qualifications stated in Rule 5101:2-12-27, OAC. Trainers must be a licensed physician, registered nurse, or an authorized communicable disease trainer from an approved health organization that specifically provides Communicable Disease training.
- The only approved communicable disease curriculums are the Common Childhood Illnesses for Child Care Centers (Approved Training Curriculum developed by Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Ohio Department of Health) and communicable disease training classes offered by an approved health organization.

Trainer Information - Training Curriculum
2009 Common Childhood Illnesses for Child Care Centers Approved Training Curriculum The Communicable Disease Curriculum is available on CD-Rom. The CD includes the curriculum, PowerPoint presentation with embedded videos and additional materials for trainers. In order to receive a copy of the training CD, trainers must fill out a trainer registration application. Upon submission of the registration form and verification of qualifications to ODJFS, the training curriculum will be sent out.

- Curriculum Requirements:
- Initial training is six hours long. A refresher course is three hours long. A refresher course is not the first half or the second half of a six hour course. The refresher course is a stand alone three hour training.
- Ohio Department of Health develops the curriculum for ODJFS. The test is required to be given to participants at the end of the initial and the refresher courses. Participants must pass the open book test.
